I've decided that I am going to try to do a daily post "What's for dinner" for the month of October. I am going to share what we had for dinner & how much it cost us out of pocket to make it. Included in my out of pocket will be anything we had to purchase to make it that WAS NOT already in our kitchen. I am going to kinda use this for myself, to see how cheap (or expensive) it is to make dinner :) Growing up, I lived pretty much off of packaged foods; so that is what I am used to. My mom would actually make dinner on Sundays, but other than that, she was working & I was left to make quick meals for myself. It's still 10x easier for me to make something prepackaged, but I am trying to get better because we have 2 kids now & they need a balanced dinner each day. My husband is the cook in the family so when he is home in the evenings we almost always make something from scratch.
I'll try to remember to take a picture each day.
Last night we had stuffed pasta shells, rolls & salad (no picture)
I had to purchase:
Salad $.69
Rolls $.99
Onion $.71
Organic red pepper $2.30
Tomato $.73
Ricotta cheese $2.49
We already had:
Salad dressing/vinegar
Shells
shredded Cheese
Parmesan cheese
pasta sauce
oregano
garlic
eggs
salt & pepper
OOP: $7.91
You'll notice bread or rolls with almost every meal. I LOVE bread & dinner doesn't feel complete without it. My kids and husband aren't as big of fans and could probably do without lol.
